Traveling with Autism: National Naval Aviation Museum

Do you have any family who served in the United States Navy? Or do you have any interest in military aircraft? If your answer is "yes", you should add the National Naval Aviation Museum to your list of travels! Chris's dad served in the US Navy during World War II. He flew in the backseat of the TBM-3E and instructed the pilot about the surroundings. My family did not serve in the US Navy; however, I was part of the US Naval life after high school for a couple of years when my husband's Naval Aircraft Carrier, the USS Kittyhawk was drydocked at the Philadelphia Naval Dock Yard. My time in Philly what led to me becoming a passionate Eagles fan!

The Naval Aviation Museum is located in Pensacola, Florida. It is free to the public in an air conditioned building which really matters in the middle of the August heat! The aircraft and displays are in pristine condition. Bryce enjoyed quite a few interactive opportunities that were included with the free admission. There was a simulator ride available to purchase for $40.00. Bryce considered using his own funds for it but decided it wasn't worth it. It was a good opportunity for him to make a personal money decision - We have been teaching him to understand the importance of spending and saving. ☺

We spent around four hours walking around the exhibits, including the hangar that you do not want to miss. We enjoyed a tasty lunch at their cafe. We also purchased tickets to watch one of the films they were showing that day about the Naval Aircraft Carrier. You can also purchase fresh popcorn and drinks for the movie. Most films are less than an hour.

Bryce is ten years old and LOVES aircraft, especially military aircraft. This was the right fit for him at this time. He was not bored and really enjoyed it. Although he was a bit distracted by the elevators, we just worked that into the plan with an allotment of a set number of rides and video tours for his YouTube channel (Parenting Autism Show). We hope this blog post will encourage others to visit the museum and take pride in our US Navy and their sacrifices for our freedom! May God bless the USA!
